Healthcare industry in Saudi Arabia has recorded a remarkable technological achievement following the successful conduct of 11 successive robotically conducted surgeries on patients in different parts of the country by experts working at Seha Virtual Hospital.
The doctors managed to conduct complicated surgery on patients based in Hail through a central control centre in Riyadh. The project is part of a bigger national telemedicine programme aimed at ensuring surgical interventions to specialised medical facilities and far-flung geographical areas in the country.
The procedures included the right lower-lobe resection that has been accomplished for the second time remotely worldwide and the fifth remotely conducted pneumonectomy globally.
Beyond thoracic procedures, the surgical team carried out complex interventions, including sleeve gastrectomy, pelvic exploration, hysterectomy, and hernia repair.
This pioneering achievement operates under the newly established Saudi protocol for remote surgical procedures. The agency’s endorsement confirms that the advanced surgical equipment satisfies all national technical and medical safety benchmarks required for direct clinical application.
