Ambassador Yahya Shoukry Sarhan, Son of Iconic Egyptian Actor, Passes Away in Australia

Yahya Shoukry Sarhan, who was the oldest child of the late famous Egyptian film star Shoukry Sarhan, has died in Australia, according to the family.

According to a member of the Sarhan family, Mohsen Sarhan, the death of the ambassador has been reported in a press statement published on Facebook, adding that efforts are being made for his funeral to take place in Egypt after bringing his body from Australia to Cairo. It has been clarified that no further information concerning the funeral ceremony will be disclosed until everything is finalised.

Unlike his father, who became one of the most celebrated figures in Middle Eastern entertainment, Yahya Shoukry Sarhan built a distinguished career within Egypt’s foreign service framework, ultimately earning the rank of ambassador and representing the country across international diplomatic posts.

Throughout his professional life and post-retirement years, he maintained a dignified public presence, occasionally appearing in regional broadcast interviews and cultural retrospectives to discuss his father’s profound contribution to Arab arts, offer personal insights into the private life of the acclaimed performer, and preserve the Sarhan family’s artistic heritage for future generations.

His passing marks another poignant chapter in the historical legacy of his father, Shoukry Sarhan, widely considered a central pillar of Egyptian cinema’s golden era. The elder Sarhan achieved massive regional stardom following his defining performance in director Youssef Chahine’s 1951 landmark film Son of the Nile (Ibn El-Nil).

Over a cinematic career spanning several decades, Shoukry Sarhan starred in dozens of classic feature films that shaped the landscape of modern Arab dramatic cinema and earned him numerous national and international accolades.

Diplomatic colleagues and figures from Egypt’s cultural community have expressed condolences to the Sarhan family, recognising Ambassador Yahya Sarhan’s decades of dedicated public service to his nation as well as his lifelong commitment to honouring one of the Arab world’s most enduring cinematic legacies.
