Saudi Arabia and France Sign Landmark Bilateral Accord to Elevate Sports Cooperation

Saudi Arabia and France have a bilateral agreement to drive institutional collaboration in athletics development and technical expertise across both elite and community sports ecosystems.

The Ministry of Sports of Saudi Arabia signed a landmark memorandum of understanding with the French Ministry of Sports, Youth and Community Life in Paris. The deal was signed by Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal, the Minister of Sports in Saudi Arabia, and Marnia Ferreri, the Minister of Sports, Youth and Community Life in France, at the conclusion of the 2026 esports of the World Cup.

The accord establishes an expansive operational framework to integrate joint initiatives, specialised knowledge, and administrative capabilities between the sporting sectors of both nations.

Two officials sign documents on a table as flags of Saudi Arabia, France, and the EU loom behind.

Under the terms of the memorandum, the two countries will facilitate reciprocal visits by national athletic teams, host joint scientific research projects, and organise collaborative conferences, workshops, and technical seminars. The bilateral framework prioritises knowledge exchange among coaches, technical specialists, and administrative personnel across key disciplines. These target areas include sports medicine, sports law, high-performance elite training, physical education research, and grassroots sports initiatives.

Furthermore, the pact broadens public and private sector collaboration to encompass anti-doping programmes, sports for people with disabilities, applied sports technology, event management, infrastructure planning, sports tourism investment, and commercial development within the rapidly expanding gaming and esports industries.

The agreement reflects deepening diplomatic and economic relations between Riyadh and Paris, leveraging sports development as a primary pillar for strategic international engagement. For Saudi Arabia, the strategic partnership directly supports the broader objectives of Vision 2030. By deepening international ties with premier global sporting nations, elevating domestic human capital, and promoting active lifestyles, the Kingdom continues to position itself as a major hub for global athletic competition, sports innovation, and international hosting rights.
