A prominent member of Saudi Arabia’s royal family has publicly brushed off a social media post accusing the Kingdom of “brutality” over its role in joint airstrikes against Iran-backed militias in Iraq, calling the accompanying threats laughable rather than credible.
Prince Abdulrahman bin Musaed, known for his frequent and outspoken commentary on X, responded Wednesday to a post by an account identified as Fadi Boudaya, which claimed Saudi forces had bombed Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) sites in Amirli and a guest facility in Karbala.
The post described the strikes as unwarranted aggression demanding a “decisive response” and warned that Saudi Arabia had entered “a war whose consequences it does not know.”
In his reply, Prince Abdulrahman said Riyadh’s action was a legitimate answer to a drone attack carried out by a militia operating outside the control of the Iraqi state, adding that he found the warning more amusing than alarming and urging the account’s owner to “find something else to occupy himself with.”
The exchange unfolded hours after Saudi Arabia and the United States carried out predawn strikes across seven Iraqi provinces—including Baghdad, Karbala, Nineveh, Basra, Kirkuk, Wasit, and Diyala—targeting PMF facilities linked to Iran-aligned factions. The PMF reported at least 20 fighters killed and 32 wounded, while Iraqi officials, including President Nizar Amidi, condemned the operation as a violation of Iraqi sovereignty. It marked the first time Saudi Arabia has publicly claimed a strike inside Iraq since its war with Iran began earlier this year.
Riyadh has said the operation, conducted jointly with US forces, followed repeated drone attacks aimed at its Eastern Province oil facilities, which it intercepted earlier in the week. Saudi officials maintain the Kingdom is not seeking to widen the conflict but will respond to continued aggression from Iran-backed groups.
