The pilot programme forms the first stage of a nationwide rollout that will eventually extend to other Egyptian airports. While the digital option becomes available, existing visa procedures will continue during the transition period to ensure uninterrupted travel services. The government says the project is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Egypt’s tourism sector by introducing smart technologies across airports and immigration services.
The tourist visa fee remains $30, while the digital service includes an additional processing charge. Officials also confirmed that current entry arrangements for Sharm El Sheikh and South Sinai remain unchanged, including the free entry permit available to eligible visitors for short stays.
