A series of photos posted by Experience AlUla on the occasion of World Photography Day shows six unique views of the historic oasis of Saudi Arabia, featuring its landscapes, culture, streets, traditions and nightscape. The photos have been chosen from among eight other photos taken by eight photographers.
This photo series shows AlUla through its lesser-known sides, showcasing the impact of light, weather conditions, architecture, way of living and nature on the identity of the destination through various photographic techniques. Experience AlUla said these photos prove that no single photograph could portray the personality of the historic oasis.
Among the featured works is Mohammed Nasif’s “When the Light Finds Elephant Rock”, which focuses on the 52-metre sandstone formation. The photograph captures the landmark at sunrise, when low sunlight highlights its textured surface and creates long shadows across the surrounding ground.
Saudi photographer Ethar Alruwaili takes a more intimate approach in “AlUla Through a Smaller Frame”, photographing the landscape through an opening between sandstone formations. The composition brings together AlUla’s vegetation and rock formations while deliberately limiting the wider view.
Abdulrahman Albalwi’s “Tradition in Motion” shifts attention toward the area’s living heritage. Camel riders crossing the desert appear against the landscape, with golden light and rising dust adding movement to the scene.
English photographer Nick Jackson, who spends much of his time in AlUla, turns his camera toward everyday life in “Where the Streets Tell Their Own Story.” His image incorporates earthen buildings, mountain scenery, market stalls, textiles and people moving through the streets.
Two further photographs explore AlUla under changing natural conditions. Abdulaziz Albalawi, known online as “Aziz AlUla,” photographed clouds moving through the sandstone mountains of Ashar Valley in “When the Clouds Descend on Ashar.” Abdulmajeed Albalawi’s “A Story Beneath the Stars” places the ruins of Hegra beneath a star-filled sky, with a lantern-bearing figure in the foreground.
Experience AlUla released the collection earlier this month to mark World Photography Day, presenting photography as a way to explore both the visible landscapes and the cultural character of the destination.
