The music rapper Dehmez has disclosed that music has influenced his personal life and artistic career. He is exploring his taste from childhood television memories and saudi music to Arabic classics, folk tradition and hip-hop. Dehmez stated that he listened to hip hop music in the mid-2000s and became immersed in the emerging local rap scene. For songwriting, he pointed to “Madnak” by Mohammed Abdel Wahab, praising its imagery and the work of poet Ahmed Shawqi. He also cited Rabeh Saqer’s “Rah Wo Ma Regaea” among his favourite examples of strong lyrics.
Long road trips call for longer classics, he said, with Umm Kulthum among his preferred choices. His favourite from her repertoire is “Darat Al-Ayam”. For a more light-hearted choice, Dehmez admitted that Ruby’s “Leh Beydari Keda” remains a personal guilty pleasure.
